About the position

The Intern - Materials and Processes Engineering position at General Atomics offers an exciting opportunity for undergraduate students in relevant fields to gain hands-on experience in the Aircraft Systems team. The role involves assisting in various tasks related to materials science and engineering, contributing to problem-solving, and developing reports and documentation under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the day-to-day activities of the assigned functional area.
  • Assists in applying knowledge to analyze, investigate, and resolve problems.
  • Helps in developing electronic and hard copy reports, records, diagrams, and charts.
  • Observes all laws, regulations, and applicable obligations during business activities.
  • Works in a safe manner according to established operating procedures.

Requirements

  • Strong foundation in material science, experimental methods, and test methods, especially with non-metallics (e.g. composites, adhesives, sealants), paints, and coatings.
  • Active enrollment as an undergraduate student at a recognized college or university.
  • Planning to continue in a graduate program immediately after the internship if the undergraduate degree is completed before the internship starts.
  • Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Ability to understand new concepts and apply them accurately.
  • Ability to follow general and detailed instructions as well as organizational policies and procedures.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with internal professionals.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills.

Benefits

  • Hourly pay rate of $29.00 - $31.00/hr depending on field of study and college years completed.
