About the position

The Undergraduate Intern position at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is designed for students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. The intern will assist the engineering team in various tasks related to design, analysis, and problem-solving within the ME Systems Integration Group. This role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in technical design solutions, particularly in areas such as avionics packaging and structural mounting provisions, using CAD software.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the day-to-day activities of the assigned functional area under general supervision.
  • Assists in applying knowledge to analyze, investigate, and resolve engineering problems.
  • Utilizes 3D CAD software for theoretical design solutions.
  • Develops aircraft integration design solutions and assigned structural mounting provisions.
  • Details designs and drawings related to component assembly, structural assemblies, mechanisms, and devices.
  • Observes all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations while conducting business on behalf of the company.
  • Works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Requirements

  • Active enrollment as an undergraduate student at a recognized college or university.
  • Completion of undergraduate degree by the time the internship begins, with plans to continue in a graduate program immediately after the internship.
  • Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Ability to understand new concepts and apply them accurately.
  • Ability to follow general and detailed instructions as well as organizational policies and procedures.
  • Basic communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with internal professionals.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills.

Benefits

  • Hourly pay rate of $29.00 - $31.00/hr, depending on field of study and college years completed.
