About the position

The Medical Laboratory Science Lab Assistant Intern position at Labcorp offers an exciting opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in a medical diagnostic laboratory. This 12-week internship is part of the Labcorp 2025 Global Internship Program, allowing interns to support meaningful assignments while developing their professional skills and exploring career opportunities in the field of laboratory science.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill lab assistant or specimen processor duties while supporting the work of technicians, technologists, and scientists.
  • Learn standard operating procedures for analyzing and storing specimens.
  • Use laboratory equipment and software appropriate for assigned tasks.
  • Prepare specimens for testing in laboratory departments through plating, aliquoting, distributing, and sorting.
  • Complete meaningful independent projects in assigned area of the laboratory.
  • Perform all paperwork, technical, and non-technical procedures required to process and submit specimens.
  • Support the lab by performing data entry, loading instruments, and performing maintenance on all types of equipment.
  • Gather supplies for testing and perform a variety of administrative duties for a designated department.

Requirements

  • Preferred December 2025 or May 2026 graduates.
  • Completion of a minimum of two years of coursework towards a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Laboratory Science; or three years in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry.
  • Completion of 2-3 sophomore-level or above biology laboratory courses and/or 2-3 chemistry laboratory courses required.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Comfortability with handling biological specimens.
  • Experience delivering multiple projects in an academic or professional setting.
