About the position

The Mobile Application Developer Intern position at Lumen is designed for students eager to explore digital innovation in a real-world setting. This 10-week summer internship program offers hands-on experience in mobile application development, focusing on creating a user-friendly app called Quantum Fiber for both Android and iOS platforms. Interns will work closely with senior developers and designers, gaining valuable skills and insights into the mobile development process.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in drafting project specifications and wireframes
  • Develop and implement key features using Kotlin and Java for cross-platform development
  • Integrate RESTful APIs to enable communication between the mobile application and backend services
  • Implement user authentication, data storage, and third-party API integration (e.g., Google Maps, Firebase)
  • Work closely with the design team to transform mockups into interactive and responsive user interfaces
  • Use Material Design guidelines for Android and Human Interface Guidelines for iOS to ensure a consistent experience across both platforms
  • Collaborate with senior developers, designers, and product managers to understand business requirements and user needs

Requirements

  • Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior level or 2 years of Masters level education status at the start of the internship
  • Graduating August 2025 - May 2026
  • Proficiency in mobile development frameworks like Java/Kotlin for Android, Flutter, React Native or Swift for iOS
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs and integrating backend services with mobile apps
  • Understanding of UI/UX design principles and experience working with design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch)
  • Knowledge of version control systems like Git
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language: Java, Kotlin, Swift, JavaScript, or Objective-C, Dart
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) concepts
