Part-time - Intern

About the position

This is a non-exempt, temporary, part-time position, limited to 1300 hours annually, which is funded by the PPD Recruitment and Training Grant. The selected Intern will be working with various divisions of the Pueblo Police Department. The duties involve observing police patrol, criminal investigations, traffic laws/regulations, related criminal law enforcement activities, and a wide variety of community services. This job description is an overview and is intended to describe the general nature of the internship. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the functions and tasks required of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Observes police functions to include respond to calls, enforcement of laws, and miscellaneous services to assist the public
  • Observes criminal investigations, the gathering and processing of evidence, and courtroom testimony
  • Prepares reports and completes follow-up reports related to criminal activity
  • Skillfully communicates with a variety of people verbally and in writing
  • Complies with verbal and written instructions and orders
  • Performs in accordance with the organizational values, policies, and procedures
  • Assists with investigative functions
  • Assists with recruiting, social media, and community functions
  • Assists department with Physical Training readiness program

Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older at the time of application
  • Must have high school diploma or GED at the time of application
  • A valid driver's license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of employment
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects weighing up to 45 lbs., will occasionally lift loads of 50 lbs.
  • The ability to sit for long periods of time for preparing reports
  • Frequent use of visual and auditory acuity for a broad continuum of essential activities including but not limited to reading documents, searching for evidence, and hearing and understanding speech
  • Ability to effectively operate radio, telephone, and computer equipment
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with spreadsheets, word processing, and databases such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
  • Basic grammar and writing skills
  • Ability to meet the intellectual and physical requirements of the position
  • Ability to work varied hours
  • Emotional stability and ability to deal successfully with an excessive amount of stress
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • High moral standards and a high degree of integrity
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
