About the position

This internship is a full-time, in-person opportunity within the Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications at the United Nations. The role focuses on supporting the UN's Creative Community Outreach Initiative (CCOI) and the Messenger of Peace (MOP) Programme, which aim to foster partnerships with the entertainment industry and coordinate advocacy efforts. The internship lasts for six months, starting on January 6, 2025, and is designed for students or recent graduates with relevant academic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Providing support for projects with external partners from the entertainment or sports industries, including drafting background materials and taking meeting notes.
  • Monitoring and reporting on social media activities of the Messengers of Peace and other influencers in support of the UN, and collating metrics on advocacy engagement.
  • Assisting with the planning and organization of special events, filming projects, and other in-person activities at UN Headquarters.
  • Drafting, formatting, editing, and posting original content for the team's two websites.
  • Assisting in drafting communications materials, including concept notes, talking points, presentations, and press releases.
  • Monitoring applications to the Football for the Goals membership daily and processing the applications.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
  • Ability to draft emails, publications, or knowledge of social media posts is desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
