About the position

The Engineering Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a motivated intern to assist in understanding the dynamic behavior of structures in various environments. This role involves supporting experimental structural dynamics programs, conducting experiments, and processing data, making it ideal for students pursuing a graduate degree in a relevant field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff members in structural dynamics, vibration, acoustics, shock, or solid mechanics testing.
  • Process data or script processes using various software systems, including MatLab, Python, LabView, and SolidWorks.
  • Research current state of the art in structural dynamics and related fields utilizing scientific literature.
  • Plan and design experiments and write reports in PowerPoint or Word.

Requirements

  • Earned bachelor's degree.
  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
  • Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with vibrations, acoustics, structural mechanics, materials science, modal analysis, or structural dynamics laboratory testing.
  • Strong verbal and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact well with fellow technical workers of diverse technical backgrounds.
