About the position

The Engineering Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a student intern to assist in understanding the dynamic behavior of structures in various environments. This role is designed for a motivated individual with a strong technical interest in experimental structural dynamics, who will support programs by setting up and performing experiments, as well as processing the resulting data.

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff members, postdoctoral appointees, and graduate student interns in structural dynamics, vibration, acoustics, shock, or solid mechanics testing.
  • Process data or script processes using various software systems, including MatLab, Python, LabView, SolidWorks, etc.
  • Research current state of the art in these fields utilizing scientific literature.
  • Plan and design experiments, write reports in PowerPoint or Word.

Requirements

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program.
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with vibrations, acoustics, structural mechanics, materials science, modal analysis, or structural dynamics laboratory testing.
  • Strong verbal and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact well with fellow technical workers of diverse technical backgrounds.
