About the position

The Hanover's Internship Program offers college students a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful projects within the Risk Solutions team. This 10-week summer internship, running from June to mid-August, is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in a professional setting, allowing them to apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges. Interns will work closely with experienced professionals, gaining insights into the insurance industry and developing essential skills that will benefit their future careers. Throughout the program, interns will participate in various activities, including a cross-functional team-building project focused on corporate philanthropy, weekly development workshops, and social engagements with fellow interns. The program aims to foster personal and professional growth, preparing interns for potential full-time employment opportunities upon graduation. In this role, interns will be involved in a variety of tasks that support the Risk Solutions service efforts. They will research and apply technical information, attend co-surveys with experienced staff to enhance their consulting skills, and complete a Capstone project that culminates in a presentation to senior management. Interns will assist field consultants with various tasks, including PML calculations, account research, and the development of loss trend analyses. They will also follow up with customers regarding recommended services and contribute ideas to improve Risk Solutions strategies. The internship concludes with a final presentation showcasing the work accomplished during the program, providing interns with an opportunity to demonstrate their contributions to management and leadership members.

Responsibilities

  • Research and apply technical information to support current Risk Solutions service efforts.
  • Attend co-surveys with experienced Risk Solutions staff to learn and develop technical and consulting skills.
  • Complete one Capstone project and presentation to senior management on a relevant Risk Solutions topic.
  • Assist field consultants with PML calculations and follow-up to review for accuracy.
  • Assist with the research and development of draft Risk Solutions support resources.
  • Assist field consultants with pre-visit preparation work including account research.
  • Develop account loss trend analyses.
  • Follow-up with customers to gain commitment to move forward with field consultant recommended services.
  • Follow-up on the status of open Vendor and Staff Recommendations by calling customers and providing assistance as needed.
  • Contribute new ideas and perspective to Risk Solutions pipelining and talent recruitment strategies.
  • Assist Technical Directors and AVPs with assigned projects.
  • Create and present a final presentation for management and leadership members at the close of the internship program.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program, preferably in a related field such as business, finance, or risk management.
  • Strong analytical and research skills to support technical information application.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective collaboration and presentation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous internship or work experience in a related field is a plus.
  • Familiarity with risk management concepts and practices.
