About the position

The Application Security Intern at Nelnet will work within the Application Security Team to assist with real projects that enhance the security posture of the development process. This role is designed for students pursuing degrees in Computer Science or related fields, providing them with hands-on experience in application security while receiving mentorship from experienced professionals. The intern will engage in meaningful work that contributes to Nelnet's mission of making educational finance simple and secure.

Responsibilities

• Assist with real projects within the Application Security Team.
• Support the implementation of the Nelnet Application Security Program.
• Help improve the security posture of the development process.
• Coach development teams on application security topics.

Requirements

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Development, or a related field.
• Interest in Cybersecurity.
• Experience with the software build process and CI/CD.
• Interest in cloud environments such as AWS.
• Experience running open source scanning tools.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable working in an agile development environment.
