About the position

Lumen is offering a fully immersive 10-week summer internship program for aspiring software engineers. The internship is designed to empower students by providing hands-on experience in software development, automation, and collaboration within a team environment. Interns will work on developing new features, troubleshooting production issues, and enhancing automation systems, all while gaining valuable insights into the technology industry.

Responsibilities

• Develop new features in existing automated provisioning systems.
• Research production support issues and code solutions.
• Create new scripts to allow automation systems to communicate with optical network elements.
• Work on scripting capability simplification to enable non-developers to implement new technologies.
• Apply principles, theories, concepts, and use of software methodologies, tools, documentation processes, security protocols, and test procedures to successfully deliver projects.
• Collaborate with Software Analysts, Scrum Masters/Team Coaches, QA Analysts, Product Owners, and other cross-functional resources to define and deliver business-impacting projects.
• Provide software installation, testing, and reporting.
• Participate in daily scrum ceremonies.
• Engage in DevOps continuous integration.

Requirements

• Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior level education status at the start of the internship.
• Graduating between August 2025 and May 2027.
• Proficiency in programming in SFDC and/or SFCC.
• Strong drive for results and taking initiative.
• Ability to be resourceful and adaptable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Knowledge of GitHub and Jenkins.
• Strong sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to demonstrate ownership and accountability.
• Ability to collaborate and have agility while making effective decisions.

Benefits

• Hourly compensation ranging from $26.00 to $43.00 per hour based on education level and experience.
