About the position

This internship at Legrand offers an opportunity for students to learn and experience various aspects of the company's operations, focusing on procurement, quality, manufacturing engineering, and packaging engineering. Interns will engage in hands-on work and continuous improvement projects to enhance organizational effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily MRP exception reports for assigned material/plant combinations.
  • Understand the inputs of the procurement process including safety stocks, sales orders, and production demands.
  • Gain exposure to the supplier performance review process.
  • Create a product line forecast in conjunction with a Demand Manager.
  • Generate Average Sales Prices (ASPs) for a given product line.
  • Attend and participate in the monthly Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) consensus review.
  • Understand the company's global sourcing strategy and individual commodity strategies.
  • Visit suppliers in different commodities to understand their business and manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct an RFQ for a product or set of products.
  • Work with Supply Chain Engineers on monitoring customer feedback and internal notifications for high priority issues.
  • Learn and conduct product and process audits, nonconforming material controls, and coordinate measurement device calibration.
  • Assist in creating quality management system documentation such as process maps and procedures.
  • Work on continuous improvement projects to reduce production Defective Parts per Million and improve product quality.
  • Perform data analysis to identify and assist in implementing process improvements.
  • Learn about supplier quality management, including supplier audits and ongoing performance evaluation.
  • Participate in the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Control Plans, and PPAP documents.
  • Conduct analysis of transactional times and propose improvements for material flow.
  • Learn Lean practices in operational and material flows.
  • Work with assembly leads and Manufacturing Engineers to redesign assembly work cells.
  • Gain exposure to Bill of Material structure, routings, and build spec sheets.
  • Evaluate Primary and Secondary Packaging against proposed specifications and recommend improvements.
  • Obtain, compile, and present data on existing and alternate packaging materials and processes.

Requirements

  • Working toward a bachelor's degree in industrial, mechanical or manufacturing engineering, business operations or supply chain management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly and proficiently understand and absorb new information.
  • Ability to structure and process qualitative and quantitative data and draw insightful conclusions.
  • Attention to detail and ethical integrity.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and leverage additional resources as needed.
  • Mechanical aptitude.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with standard problem solving methodologies.
  • Familiarity with SAP.
