This position as Editor in Chief for the Internal Communications team is pivotal in shaping the narrative for over 170,000 global employees. You will be responsible for keeping internal stakeholders informed and inspired through strategic and engaging content across our internal channels, including FordOnline and BlueOvalNow, which receive an average of 2.8 million monthly visits. Your exceptional storytelling strategies and disciplined editorial process will elevate confidence in Ford's future and ignite passion for our products and services. In this role, you will develop creative and streamlined editorial content for Ford's employees, partners, and alumni. You will lead a team that includes cross-functional partners, interactive designers, videographers, and internal reporters. Collaboration with the larger Ford Communications team is essential to create editorial plans that support major skill team moments, such as product launches. You will continuously re-evaluate and reimagine processes to maintain a high-performance internal communications newsroom, inspiring your team to tell compelling stories through various mediums. Utilizing data and insights, you will identify unique storytelling opportunities that drive engagement and business results, while also monitoring and evaluating content performance. As a leader within the Ford Employee Communications team, you will ensure that the editorial strategy aligns with Employee Engagement initiatives. Your role will inspire a culture of optimism, competitiveness, and creative excellence, while balancing staff and production budgets to achieve successful outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop creative, streamlined editorial content for Ford's employees, partners, and alumni via various internal channels.
  • Build and lead the editorial process and content team, including cross-functional partners, interactive designers, videographers, and internal reporters.
  • Collaborate with the Ford Communications team to create editorial plans for major skill team moments like product launches.
  • Re-evaluate and reimagine processes to maintain a high-performance internal communications newsroom.
  • Inspire the team to tell compelling stories through film, video, graphic design, and thoughtful prose tailored to internal audiences.
  • Use data and insights to identify storytelling opportunities that drive engagement and business results.
  • Identify and exploit emerging content and creative platform trends.
  • Deliver multi-channel content propositions to optimize storytelling objectives.
  • Act as an organizational leader within the Ford Employee Communications team to align editorial strategy with Employee Engagement.
  • Inspire a culture of optimism, competitiveness, and creative excellence.
  • Monitor and evaluate content performance and engagement using data and research.
  • Balance staff and production budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English or related field.
  • 8-10 years of experience in communications, including online editorial or content management roles.
  • Five or more years of experience leading online publishing, channel planning, or content amplification strategies.

  • Experience in a news-making environment plus public relations or internal communications, digital content marketing or content creation.
  • Demonstrated track record developing comprehensive, integrated strategies for internal audiences.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop compelling stories.
  • Energetic and skilled storyteller across various formats.
  • Experience applying quantitative methods to content strategy.
  • Knowledge of social and digital media platforms and tools for a mobile-first approach.
  • Experience managing a multi-disciplined, creative team.
