About the position

Essential Utilities, Inc. is seeking an Internal Communications Specialist to join our team in Bryn Mawr, PA. This role is pivotal in delivering safe, clean, and reliable services that enhance the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities. As part of our commitment to sustainable growth and operational excellence, the Internal Communications Specialist will play a key role in ensuring effective communication within the organization and with our stakeholders. The position involves a blend of administrative support, content creation, and content management, with a focus on fostering an open and transparent work environment. The Internal Communications Specialist will be responsible for processing communications department invoices, scheduling meetings, and assisting with executive meetings as necessary. A significant portion of the role will involve drafting and reviewing messages for internal audiences, taking photos and videos at events, and coordinating field content with state specialists. The specialist will also manage the company intranet, ensuring that content is consistently updated and relevant. This includes overseeing the governance committee for the intranet and supporting the distribution of executive communications to keep employees informed about company initiatives and community efforts. In addition, the role requires collaboration with internal stakeholders to create newsletters aimed at enhancing employee engagement and assisting with quarterly town hall meetings. The ideal candidate will have a passion for storytelling and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities

  • Process communications department invoices
  • Schedule communications department meetings and assist with executive meetings as necessary
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing messages to internal audiences
  • Take photos and short videos at internal and community events as needed
  • Coordinate field content and employee stories with state specialists
  • Assist with creation and/or ideation of visual graphics as needed
  • Update content on Essential's Company Intranet, LED screens, and other distribution channels
  • Manage Essential's Company Intranet governance committee and process
  • Support creation and distribution of executive communications
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to create and manage newsletters aimed at employee engagement
  • Assist with Essential's quarterly town hall meetings, including planning and execution
  • Proofread emails, documents, policies, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, public relations, communications or a related field
  • Two to five years of experience in the communications field demonstrating tangible results
  • A valid US driver's license and ability to drive company vehicles
  • Basic knowledge of media relations, community and philanthropic organizations, communications best practices
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook)
  • Knowledge of A.P. style
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities
  • Team player able to work effectively in a multi-tasking environment

Nice-to-haves

  • Some level of knowledge in Illustrator, Photoshop, or Canva
  • Some level of knowledge in Salesforce or other email marketing tool
  • Some level of knowledge of Drupal, or other Intranet/CMS system
