About the position

The Internal Communications Specialist at COLSA is a pivotal role focused on enhancing employee engagement through effective internal communication strategies. This position is based at the Huntsville, AL Corporate Office and is 100% on-site. The specialist will assist in the development and management of internal content across various platforms, ensuring that it aligns with business objectives while adhering to IT and security requirements. The role requires a creative approach to storytelling and communication, aimed at keeping employees connected, informed, and engaged. The specialist will be responsible for creating an internal communications strategy that not only meets IT and security standards but also fosters a culture of engagement among employees. This includes the development of various communication formats such as newsletters, events, flyers, intranet content, videos, and emails. The role also involves collaboration with the IT Solutioning team to build an effective intranet that serves as a central hub for internal communications. In addition to content creation, the Internal Communications Specialist will support the Leadership Team by providing guidance on voice and tone, as well as communication strategies and tactics. This includes presentation support and the management of an internal content calendar to ensure timely and relevant messaging. The specialist will also plan and execute internal events, such as company-wide meetings and professional development initiatives, in collaboration with the Human Resources Department. The position requires strong project management skills, as the specialist will need to manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring that all communications resonate with employees. The role also involves establishing best practices and key performance indicators (KPIs) to continuously improve the internal communications function, ultimately driving better employee engagement. The Internal Communications Specialist will play a crucial role in fostering a positive workplace culture at COLSA, where employees are considered the most valuable resource.

Responsibilities

  • Create an internal communications strategy that meets IT and security requirements and improves employee engagement.
  • Develop new creative formats for delivering and distributing information to keep employees connected and informed.
  • Assist in building an intranet with the IT Solutioning team.
  • Support the Leadership Team with voice/tone, communications strategies, and presentation support.
  • Build and maintain an internal content calendar to deliver messages effectively.
  • Write and delegate content tasks to other writers for various communication channels.
  • Plan and execute internal events such as company-wide meetings and professional development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on employee engagement initiatives, including onboarding communications and training materials.
  • Set strategy for effective internal crisis communications.
  • Manage internal communication channels to ensure messaging reaches all employees.
  • Develop best practices and KPIs for continuous improvement of internal communications.
  • Collaborate on special projects and change communications initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Human Resources, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 or more years of experience in internal communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • Senior-level experience using communications tools and software such as Microsoft Office, especially SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook; social media platforms; and the Adobe suite.
  • Strong editing and storytelling abilities, particularly for newsletters and internal communications.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check prior to hire.
