About the position

The Internal Controls & Special Projects Coordinator at MDU Resources Group, Inc. is responsible for overseeing the Internal Controls Compliance Program, ensuring adherence to financial regulations and internal policies. This role involves collaboration with audit teams and financial personnel to implement effective internal control processes and complete special financial projects that align with the organization's strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the Internal Controls Compliance Program for MDU Resources and the Utility Group.
• Lead the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) management testing program, ensuring coverage of critical processes.
• Evaluate segregation of duties and user access for financial systems.
• Enhance SOX processes and controls in response to organizational growth and changes.
• Provide education and training on the COSO internal control framework and SOX compliance to process owners.
• Partner with management on special financial projects that support strategic objectives.
• Perform additional tasks and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
• Six years of experience in accounting within public or private industry.
• Advanced knowledge of accounting and financial concepts.
• Certification as an Internal Auditor (CIA) or Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with JD Edwards and utility accounting is preferred.
