About the position

The Meter Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and testing of water meters, as well as responding to customer inquiries regarding leaks and service issues. This role involves administrative support for field activities, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of water distribution infrastructure, and maintaining effective public relations.

Responsibilities

• Install, reset, remove, and test water meters.
• Respond to customer calls regarding leaks or no water.
• Maintain the water distribution infrastructure within the meter box.
• Perform administrative duties by updating work orders and service requests in the computerized maintenance management system (INFOR).
• Utilize GIS, block maps, and as-built drawings for daily assignments.
• Coordinate and prioritize schedules, assignments, equipment, and materials for daily tasks.
• Organize and maintain vehicle, tools, equipment, and facilities used for testing and repairing meters.
• Assist with work zone traffic control and promote a safe working environment.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and internal teams.
• Perform field inspections and diagnose problems in response to customer inquiries.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Six months of experience in utility work, minor plumbing repairs, or construction trades.
• Basic PC skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook.
• General skill in using simple hand tools and battery-operated tools.
• Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
• Ability to perform position-specific physical testing.

Nice-to-haves

• Class 'D' Texas Water Operator's License.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish.
• Experience utilizing the INFOR (Hansen) computerized maintenance management system.
