About the position

Actalent Corporate has an immediate opening for an Internal Payroll Specialist at our Global Headquarters in Hanover, MD. This full-time position operates Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, offering a competitive compensation of $23.07 per hour along with a potential quarterly bonus of $1000. The Internal Payroll Specialist will report directly to the Payroll Lead and will be responsible for a variety of payroll-related tasks, ensuring accurate and timely processing for all Internal Aston Carter and Actalent operating companies. This role requires close collaboration with field support staff and will be performed under moderate supervision. The position also provides opportunities for career development for the right candidate. The Internal Payroll Specialist will engage in daily payroll responsibilities, assist with both on-cycle and off-cycle payroll processing, and manage the workflow portal (ESF) by entering Employee Status Form changes, including hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, and tax updates. A strong understanding of proper taxation for employee federal, state, and local taxes is essential. The specialist will be expected to identify and assess situations using standard procedures, communicate policies and procedures to field personnel regarding payroll issues, and perform weekly audits to capture potential errors. Compliance for unclaimed property, personal time off adjustments, and tax balance adjustments will also be part of the responsibilities. The role requires close teamwork to ensure all tasks are completed accurately and timely, providing employees with accurate paychecks and addressing inquiries related to year-end forms such as W2 and W2c.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily payroll responsibilities
  • Assist with on-cycle and off-cycle payroll processing
  • Manage workflow portal (ESF): Enter Employee Status Form changes including hires, terminations, promotions & transfers, tax updates, etc.
  • Understand proper taxation of employee federal, state, and local taxes
  • Identify and assess situations using standard procedures and make sound decisions
  • Communicate policies and procedures to field personnel on payroll issues
  • Perform weekly audit to capture potential errors
  • Perform compliance for unclaimed property
  • Perform personal time off adjustments
  • Prepare tax balance adjustment as needed
  • Work closely with team members to ensure that all tasks are completed
  • Provide accurate and timely paycheck to our employees
  • Research and email appropriate audiences on inquiries
  • Assist with year-end form inquiries (W2 & W2c experience)

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 2+ years of Payroll experience
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Exposure to payroll related accounting functions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and team player
  • Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to deal with sensitive confidential material
  • Computer skills: PeopleSoft, Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer
  • Strong customer service skills
