As a clinical resource, the ACS paramedic provides physiological monitoring of patients during any off-unit procedures and transfers between various departments in accordance with Children's policies. The paramedic will facilitate timely completion of procedures by appropriately reprioritizing tasks as necessary and communicating pertinent care concerns between inpatient care teams and non-clinical procedure personnel to assure patient safety. In addition, the paramedic team provides daily AHA Family and Friends CPR training to patient families prior to discharge and will assist the ED during heavy census by monitoring patients prior to triage and as they await rooming with assessments, reassessments, and performing limited standing delegated orders. The successful candidate is independently motivated with the ability to quickly reprioritize multiple tasks, works well alone or in a team of two, is highly adaptable to a fast-paced work environment, and maintains strong customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform BLS and advanced skills during patient care including initiation of PIV catheters, priming IV fluids (excluding blood products), naso/oral/pharyngeal suctioning and insertion of NG/OG tubes.
  • Assist in emergency situations by initiating BLS and ALS life saving skills, assisting with chest compressions.
  • Perform documentation of patient care in the electronic medical record per department and hospital guidelines.
  • Administer approved medications per physician order or protocol.
  • Apply family and patient centered care to all job aspects and support family during all phases of care.
  • Assist in the training and development of new staff to the department. Provides objective feedback to team leader/manager related to progress of new hires.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and maintain all required training.
  • Perform the transport of patients to procedures in adherence to hospital policy.
  • Provide objective feedback to team leader/manager related to progress of new hires; perform basic and advanced skills in accordance with the ED Paramedic protocols; assist staff with the stabilization of critically ill and injured neonatal and pediatric patients.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years job related experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training beyond high school
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements
  • Either one of: Texas EMT-P license or Texas LP licensure
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) 180 Days
  • ACLS (Advance Cardiac Life Support) certification 180 Days

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 1 year Experience in acute care/emergency setting
  • At least 1 year Pediatric experience
  • Any one of: BTLS, ITLS or PHTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support/International Trauma Life Support, Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support) certification 180 Days
