About the position

The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) is seeking a detail-oriented International Grants & Marketing Coordinator/Manager to join our team in Juneau, Alaska. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the Alaska seafood industry by overseeing various marketing initiatives and managing contractors in Asia. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing ASMI's international marketing strategy and producing an annual grant application for federal funding. This role requires a strong analytical mindset to assess data, statistics, and marketing issues related to Alaska seafood in designated markets. In addition to strategic development, the Coordinator/Manager will oversee and implement public relations and marketing activities, including trade shows, press and trade missions, seminars, social media campaigns, and in-store promotions. Effective budget management is essential, as is maintaining close communication with accounting staff to ensure compliance with financial regulations. The role also involves managing market surveys, trademarks, research projects, and market evaluations, with a focus on monitoring performance measures to gauge the success of marketing efforts. Event planning and organization are key components of this position, which includes familiarization tours and international trade missions. The Coordinator/Manager will respond to requests for information and support from various stakeholders, including industry representatives, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), ASMI board members, media, foreign trade partners, and state agencies. Regular reporting is required, with the Coordinator/Manager providing written and verbal updates for presentations to the board, committee members, and USDA. The role also requires regular domestic and international travel, as well as acting as the internal expert for grant compliance. This includes ensuring that all conditions and requirements are met, all deliverables are documented and filed appropriately, and discrepancies are communicated with overseas marketing representatives. The Coordinator/Manager will also seek, apply for, and coordinate additional grant-funded programs, such as the Foreign Agricultural Service Cochran missions and the Quality Samples Program.

Responsibilities

  • Participation in the development of ASMI's International marketing strategy and production of an annual grant application for federal funding
  • Analysis of data, statistics and marketing issues regarding Alaska seafood in designated markets
  • Oversight and implementation of public relations (PR)/marketing activities such as trade shows, press/trade missions and seminars, social media, and in-store promotions
  • Careful budget management, close communication with accounting staff, and related administrative and compliance tasks
  • Managing market surveys, trademarks, research projects, and market evaluations, including monitoring performance measures
  • Event planning and organization, including familiarization tours and international trade missions
  • Responding to requests for information and support from industry, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), ASMI board of directors and committee members, media, foreign trade partners, ASMI staff and state agencies
  • Fulfilling extensive reporting requirements; providing regular written and verbal status updates for presentations to board, committee members and USDA
  • Act as the internal expert for grant compliance: Ensure that all conditions and requirements have been met, all deliverables have been received, documented and, where applicable, filed, identify discrepancies and communicate with overseas marketing representatives regarding compliance, and oversee audit preparation
  • Seek, apply for and coordinate additional grant funded programs, including Foreign Agricultural Service Cochran missions, Quality Samples Program, and more.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in marketing, international relations, English, or a related field, or three years work experience in a related field
  • International study or work experience preferred
  • Foreign language skills preferred
