About the position

The International Operations Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring that the expectations of clients are met or exceeded consistently. This position is centered around providing exceptional service in the realm of international airfreight and ocean freight. The specialist is responsible for responding quickly and proactively to challenges that arise, facilitating swift and positive solutions to meet the diverse needs of clients. This role requires a strong focus on prioritizing, scheduling, and routing shipments for both air import and export, while maintaining accurate status updates for all shipments. In addition to managing the logistics of shipments, the International Operations Specialist must ensure compliance with regulatory and country-level requirements. This includes responding to inquiries from overseas agents and offices in a timely manner, as well as interacting with customers and their key personnel as needed. Building and maintaining relationships with both existing and new customers and carriers is essential for the success of this role. The specialist must handle and resolve any issues that arise with customers, team branches, and agents quickly and efficiently. Daily communication with customers is vital to keep them informed of any changes pertaining to their shipments, ensuring transparency and trust in the service provided. Overall, the International Operations Specialist is a key player in the operations team, working closely with the Operations Manager to ensure that all aspects of international freight forwarding are handled smoothly and effectively, contributing to the overall success of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizing, scheduling, and routing shipments for air import/export.
  • Maintaining accurate status updates for import/export shipments.
  • Ensuring regulatory and country level compliance.
  • Responding to inquiries from overseas agents/offices in a timely fashion.
  • Interacting with customers and their key personnel as needed.
  • Maintaining and growing relationships on Team's behalf with both existing and new customers and carriers.
  • Handling and quickly resolving any issues with customers, Team branches, and agents.
  • Communicating daily with customers to keep them informed of changes pertaining to their shipments.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4+ years of experience in international air ocean freight forwarding operations.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Creative problem solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of ocean and air freight movement including pricing, documentation and shipment management.
  • Working knowledge of applicable state, federal and international laws and regulations (Federal Maritime Commissions, Interstate Commerce Commission, Customs, environmental, import/export, maritime).
