About the position

The Controls & Software Automation Engineer Internship at Tesla is designed for students pursuing degrees in engineering fields such as Mechatronics, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering. This full-time, on-site internship will provide hands-on experience in critical cell manufacturing projects, focusing on electrical controls and software development. Interns will work closely with experienced engineers, gaining exposure to real-world applications and contributing to the optimization and automation of manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Review vendor electrical controls designs against Tesla's electrical and safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve in the field, implementing continuous improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure controls systems meet functional and regulatory standards.
  • Develop structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable code for software applications.
  • Interface equipment with Tesla production databases.
  • Assist in developing 3D/2D simulation models for automated manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain and develop new features for industrial vision processing software.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, preferably Mechatronics, Computer Science, Electrical or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of designing electrical control panels and controls system wiring.
  • Experience with software development tools such as GitHub, Splunk, and Jira.
  • Familiarity with coding Microcontrollers or PLCs in languages such as C/C++, Java, Python, etc.
  • Experience in web development languages and frameworks including JavaScript, React, HTML5, and CSS3.
  • Robust understanding of software fundamentals including software design, Git, and CI/CD.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with tools for virtual commissioning such as iPhysics, Process Simulate, and EMulate3D.
  • Experience with 3D CAD design software such as CATIA or SOLIDWORKS.
