About the position

The person in this position will work with project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. The role involves performing basic engineering calculations and analysis, developing details of design, assisting in the design of solutions, monitoring construction projects, and preparing drawings, specifications, and sketches. The work may involve tasks related to power distribution, controls, and instrumentation. This position is based out of our Duluth, Minnesota, office, and a hybrid work arrangement may be considered, allowing for a split between working in the office and from home. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, effectively communicating with project team members and clients. Attention to detail and a conscientious approach to the accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of results are essential. The role requires a flexible working style, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs. Safety training will be provided, and applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients. Candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future, and must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. The work environment may include rough terrain typical of construction sites and may require entering and working in facilities with limited accessibility and moving machinery, which are common in industrial settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical engineering and related technical expertise to project teams.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and analysis.

Requirements

  • Electrical or other related engineering major.
  • At least two semesters of physics and three semesters of mathematics.
  • Junior or senior standing with a minimum of one full-time semester of undergraduate or graduate course work remaining after the internship.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows OS and Microsoft Office software.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD.
  • Conscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of results.
  • Thorough, organized, detail-oriented approach.
  • Flexible working style and ability to work independently and with teams of specialists.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
