About the position

At MITRE, we leverage deep technical knowledge, engineering expertise, and prototyping capabilities to develop, evaluate, and test creative and practical solutions that facilitate tech transition and inform acquisition. In our electronic systems and engineering role, we innovate and provide practical solutions in the areas of sensing, communications, processing, and more. As an intern working in electrical or computer engineering, you will collaborate with a team to apply your knowledge and gain experience in various domains including electronic warfare, antennas/electromagnetics, sensors/radar, photonics, and signal processing. You will also engage in communications, SIGINT, spectrum, and position, navigation, and timing (PNT) tasks, as well as electronics and embedded security. The role involves rapid electronic and hardware prototyping, advanced manufacturing, design, mechanical and reliability analysis, and maritime system development, including acoustic & ocean modeling, SONAR system analysis, and transducer design. This internship is designed for students who are enrolled full-time in an accredited degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. You will be expected to continue your full-time enrollment in the semester following the internship. Candidates should possess knowledge of electrical engineering theory and one or more areas such as digital signal processing, wireless communications, computer architecture, embedded software, embedded security, cryptography, analog design, RF/EM, sensors and antennas, photonics, power systems, and software architecture and design. Sustained excellence in academic performance is a must, and experience in applying electrical or computer engineering knowledge in an internship or research/lab position is preferred. Hands-on skills in at least one programming language and a demonstrated interest in serving the public are also beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team to develop and test solutions in electronic systems and engineering.
  • Apply knowledge in areas such as electronic warfare, antennas/electromagnetics, sensors/radar, photonics, and signal processing.
  • Engage in communications, SIGINT, spectrum, and position, navigation, and timing (PNT) tasks.
  • Work on electronics and embedded security projects.
  • Participate in rapid electronic and hardware prototyping and advanced manufacturing.
  • Conduct design, mechanical, and reliability analysis.
  • Assist in maritime system development, including acoustic & ocean modeling, SONAR system analysis, and transducer design.

Requirements

  • Must be a full-time student pursuing an accredited degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering theory and one or more areas such as digital signal processing, wireless communications, computer architecture, embedded software, embedded security, cryptography, analog design, RF/EM, sensors and antennas, photonics, power systems, and software architecture and design.
  • Sustained excellence in academic performance.

Nice-to-haves
