About the position
The Interpreter (American Sign Language) position within the Department of the Navy is responsible for facilitating communication for deaf and hard of hearing team members, enabling their full participation in organizational activities. The role involves providing interpreting services for various work-related activities, promoting understanding of deaf culture, and offering training on relevant topics to employees and management.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate communication for deaf/hard of hearing team members during organizational activities.
- Provide interpreting services for daily work-related activities, including meetings, appointments, and training.
- Promote understanding of deaf culture and provide training to employees and supervisors.
- Provide contracting and scheduling support for necessary supplemental services.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
- Experience performing simultaneous interpretation from spoken English into American Sign Language and vice versa.
Nice-to-haves
- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field.
- Three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
