About the position

The Intervention Specialist/Licensed Special Education Teacher at Imagine Schools in Columbus, OH, is responsible for planning and delivering instruction tailored to the unique needs of special education students. This role requires the application of effective methodologies to enhance the development of sensory and perceptual motor skills, language, cognition, and memory. The teacher will employ special education strategies during instruction, focusing on improving students' social behaviors through techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement. In addition to delivering instruction, the specialist will modify the general education curriculum to accommodate special-needs students, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and technologies. The approved-course curriculum must be implemented effectively, and the teacher will collaborate with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop individualized educational plans that promote each student's educational, physical, and social development. Regular communication with parents and guardians is essential to discuss students' progress and to identify their priorities and resource needs. The specialist will also support children's emotional and social development, fostering a positive self-image and understanding of others. Clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects must be established and communicated to students. The role may also involve providing interpretation and transcription of classroom materials through Braille and sign language as needed. Preventive discipline methodologies will be utilized, and the specialist will consult with other school staff as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Completing written reports and administrative tasks related to students' progress in educational, physical, and social development is also required. The teacher is expected to demonstrate an understanding of the Imagine Schools' Six Measures of Excellence and model positive character virtues and habits, assisting students in developing positive moral and performance character attributes. Other duties may be assigned by the Principal or School Leader as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver instruction using the most efficient and effective methodology for the students assigned.
  • Employ special education strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory and perceptual motor skills, language, cognition and memory.
  • Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement.
  • Modify the general education curriculum for special-needs students based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
  • Implement the approved-course curriculum.
  • Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop individual educational plans designed to promote each student's educational, physical and social development.
  • Meet with parents and/or guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.
  • Implement modifications in a student's education plan as required.
  • Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and a positive self-image.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Provide interpretation and transcription of regular classroom materials through Braille and sign language as needed.
  • Utilize preventive discipline methodology with students.
  • Consult with other school staff as necessary to complete the functions of the position.
  • Complete written reports and assigned administrative tasks related to these functions, such as student's progress in educational, physical and social development.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Imagine Schools' Six Measures of Excellence in the execution of duties.
  • Model positive character virtues and habits. Assist students in developing positive moral and performance character attributes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Principal/School Leader.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (Preferred)
  • Teaching Certification (Preferred)
  • 1 year of teaching experience (Preferred)
  • Ability to relocate to Columbus, OH 43204 before starting work (Required)
