About the position

The Special Education Teacher - Intervention Specialist is responsible for providing individualized educational services and support to students with special educational and social adjustment needs. This role involves planning, developing, delivering, and evaluating tailored learning programs to meet the unique requirements of each student, ensuring their academic and personal development in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying individual student needs through formal and informal assessments
  • Collaborating with general education teachers regarding the educational, social, emotional, and physical needs and objectives of each student
  • Reviewing referral data, history, and assessment data to develop appropriate goals and objectives for each student
  • Managing Individualized Educational Plans (IEP's) for each student, including planning, development, and implementation
  • Preparing instructional materials and lesson plans
  • Reviewing IEP's with parents, school administrators, and general education teachers
  • Monitoring, evaluating, and documenting each student's progress utilizing appropriate measurements and assessment devices
  • Modifying and adapting conventional educational programs and curriculum to meet the requirements of special needs students
  • Maintaining regular communication with parents through email, phone calls, conferences, and progress reports
  • Managing student behavior through monitoring, supervising, and assessing behavioral patterns
  • Instructing students on socially acceptable behaviors and personal development skills
  • Preparing students for inclusion and transition to mainstream education
  • Maintaining accurate and complete records of lesson plans and student performance in accordance with school district regulations and legal requirements
  • Ensuring student safety and supervision at all times
  • Collaborating with parents for referrals to outside services (i.e., psychologists, therapists, etc.)
  • Knowing school crisis protocol and risk assessment
  • Participating in school events, both onsite and offsite, when required
  • Attending meetings, staff trainings, conferences, and other ongoing learning programs
  • Informing students of additional learning opportunities and setting them up for success
  • Building relationships with parents and/or guardians to ensure exceptional customer service
  • Adhering to the school's student discipline framework, which encompasses PBIS, Restorative Discipline, and Trauma-Informed Teaching practices
  • Being held to a high ethical and legal standard dictated by the profession
  • Performing any other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Special Education Teacher or equivalent position working with children with special needs
  • Ability to design effective programs for diverse children
  • Proficient knowledge of classroom policies and procedures
  • Highly organized
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong people skills and affinity for children
  • Excellent observation and analytical skills
  • Flexible to work extended hours to conduct meetings with parents/guardians
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or Special Education
  • Valid State Teaching Certification
  • Special Education or Intervention Specialist License
