About the position

The Invasive Cardiac Technologist performs imaging procedures at a technical level requiring independent judgment and initiative. This role involves a variety of technical procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort while adhering to departmental protocols and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies all patients properly using two patient identifiers and utilizes universal protocol when performing procedures.
  • Reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results in the acquisition of data.
  • Documents patient history in electronic record as required.
  • Communicates instructions to patients clearly and explains procedures to help alleviate fears and solicit cooperation.
  • Interacts with patients and co-workers with a high level of caring, listening, dignity, and respect.
  • Works as a team member within the department and other departments to expedite patient care efficiently.
  • Maintains point of care testing standards, including daily quality control for devices used for procedures.
  • Provides stand by call coverage as scheduled, in accordance with system-wide stand by call procedure/policy.
  • Administers contrast under the direction of the procedure physician.
  • Demonstrates competency in functioning in the first assist position.
  • Fosters an environment that supports aseptic technique during procedures and patient safety with the incorporation of a time-out process.
  • Practices attentiveness to radiation safety for the patient and others in the procedure room, including appropriate use of lead shielding and monitoring devices.
  • Assures documentation of patient radiation exposure in electronic record.
  • Demonstrates proper positioning and appropriate radiographic techniques for all diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Exhibits a clear understanding of correct patient preparation, equipment operations, and patient monitoring systems.
  • Supports other departments as directed or assigned.
  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of the operation of both equipment and supplies.
  • Ensures all images within his/her area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through the PACS and are properly networked to appropriate electronic record for archival and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the procedures performed.
  • Maintains continuing education and competency requirements for the position.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology (RT-R) or Invasive Cardiovascular Specialist (RCIS) certification or certified/licensed as a Paramedic in Pennsylvania with current credentialing maintained.
  • ARRT certified as a Radiologic Technologist or RCIS as a Cardiovascular Specialist or certified/licensed as a Paramedic in Pennsylvania is required.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • ACLS certification is desired upon hire and must be completed within the orientation period.
  • New graduates have 1 year to obtain their board certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science in a healthcare-related field (accepted but not required).
  • ACLS certification upon hire.
