About the position

The Invasive Carp Lock and Dam 5 Deterrent Project Coordinator is responsible for managing a project aimed at installing an invasive carp deterrent at Lock and Dam 5 on the Mississippi River. This role involves coordinating with interagency partners, facilitating meetings, managing project timelines, and ensuring compliance with necessary permits and environmental reviews. The position supports the Department of Natural Resources in its mission to protect natural resources and improve the quality of life for Minnesotans.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate project team including interagency partners to advance Lock and Dam 5 deterrent project through scoping, design, and construction phases.
  • Organize and lead project team meetings, manage records related to the project, and ensure project milestones are being met according to schedule.
  • Develop, write, and implement communications and reporting products, serving as the project's communications point of contact for various stakeholders.
  • Ensure necessary permits and environmental review processes are identified and permit applications are complete and submitted in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, communications, natural resources management, political science, ecology, fisheries, wildlife biology, biology, conservation sciences, or related field.
  • Two years of professional experience in planning, communication, or project management.
  • Collaborative skills to effectively work within an organization and with organizations and individuals.
  • Written and communications skills to translate technical information into public-facing materials that are understandable and audience-specific.
  • Proficiency with databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Skills in project management and time management to effectively coordinate and implement multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Training in project management or meeting facilitation.
  • Experience with natural resource policy, planning, or management in state, federal, or local units of government.
  • Experience communicating or planning projects related to invasive species management and prevention.
  • Experience serving as a representative for a group, agency, or project for media interviews or public requests, especially on politically sensitive topics.
  • Basic knowledge of the function and structure of locks and dams.
  • Knowledge of invasive species ecology, fisheries population biology, conservation biology, natural resources science or management, invasive carp biology and management, and the Mississippi River ecosystem.
  • Advanced degree in public administration, communications, natural resources management, political science, ecology, fisheries and aquatic sciences, conservation sciences, or related field.
