About the position

The Invasive Species Management Field Technician will work full-time in Mecklenburg County, NC, focusing on invasive plant management. The role involves participating in habitat rehabilitation efforts and utilizing various techniques to control invasive exotic plants in natural areas. The position offers opportunities for training and professional development in invasive plant management and related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Participate as part of an invasive plant management team.
  • Utilize chemical and mechanical methods to control invasive exotic plants.
  • Conduct habitat rehabilitation of native plant communities.
  • Treat invasive plant species with minimal to no damage to native species.
  • Work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.

Requirements

  • Must have or be working towards a degree in a natural resource management related field such as environmental science, biology, botany, or forestry.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to travel for long periods of time away from home.
  • Ability to pass pesticide applicator exams in various states.
  • Knowledge of current trends in invasive plant management in natural areas.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 year of experience in resource management (preferred).
  • State pesticide applicators certification (preferred).
