About the position

The Designer/Drafter position focuses on utilizing Inventor and SolidWorks to create detailed working diagrams and 3D models of various mechanical, electrical, and structural equipment. The role requires translating design specifications provided by engineers into precise technical drawings, ensuring that all designs adhere to established drafting standards and engineering guidelines. The successful candidate will be responsible for revising existing engineering drawings based on specific sketches or layouts, maintaining accurate records of all drafting tasks, and preparing bills of materials for assigned designs. In addition to creating and revising drawings, the Designer/Drafter will also review the work of other design personnel to ensure completeness and accuracy. A willingness to learn about drilling rig equipment is essential, as this knowledge will enhance the ability to work independently and effectively in the role. The position involves some travel to fabrication and assembly facilities, as well as rig locations, to gather necessary information and ensure that designs are implemented correctly. This hybrid role requires on-site work on Mondays, with the remainder of the week being remote, allowing for flexibility in the work schedule.

Responsibilities

• Translate design specifications from engineers into detailed working diagrams of electrical, structural, or mechanical equipment using CAD technology.
• Create technical drawings and 3D digital models, using measurements, specifications, and data from the engineering team.
• Revise existing engineering drawings of basic components from specific sketches or layouts.
• Maintain accurate drawing records and drafting tasks.
• Prepare bill of materials for assigned designs.
• Review drawings of other design personnel for completeness and accuracy as required.
• Willing to learn about drilling rig equipment to develop domain knowledge and become an effective independent Designer.
• Develop and revise drawings while adhering to our Drafting standards and our Engineering Standards & Guidelines.
• Travel to fabrication facilities, assembly facilities, and rig locations as required.

Requirements

• Associates degree or completion of a technical trade school in CAD, drafting or related field or Bachelors degree in Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a drafter or similar role.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) software and SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of structural and piping detailing and electrical/controls drafting is preferred.
• Strong mathematical capabilities and mechanical/electrical aptitude.
• Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.
• Excellent interpersonal, professional, and technical communication skills while working in a team atmosphere.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of structural and piping detailing and electrical/controls drafting is preferred.
