About the position

The Inventory Accountant at City Light & Power, Inc. is responsible for managing and tracking inventory to ensure compliance with client and contract expectations. This role involves a variety of accounting tasks, including monthly close activities, inventory reconciliation, and collaboration with other departments to maintain accurate inventory records. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to understand the impact of inventory transactions across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Track and monitor weekly inventory usage and manage discrepancies and adjustments related to inventory.
  • Perform monthly close activities including posting inventory transactions, account reconciliation, and preparing journal entries and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain master inventory listing across company locations for consistent tracking and monitoring.
  • Assist Job Cost Accountant with review of materials posted to each job during and prior to completion.
  • Work with purchasing and accounts payable to ensure accurate posting of inventory received, including review of purchase orders and accounts payable invoices.
  • Lead annual physical inventory and cycle counts, including planning and investigating inventory variances.
  • Maintain or develop accounting policies, procedures, and process documentation.
  • Make journal entries and job cost entries to correct job expenses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • 2-4 years of experience with inventory or cost accounting, preferably in utility or construction fields.
  • Thorough understanding of integrated financial and accounting systems (Spectrum or DelTek Costpoint a plus).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Power Point, Word).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication capabilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across the organization.
  • Solid problem-solving and analytical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in utility or construction fields.
  • Familiarity with integrated financial and accounting systems.
