About the position

This position plays a critical role in ensuring inventory accuracy across various departments, which is essential for maintaining the efficiency of production lines and minimizing inventory loss. The individual will be responsible for driving the quality of ERP inventory transaction alignment with physical inventory movements, ensuring that production lines are consistently supplied with materials and that warehouse sales order pick lists are completed without adjustments. This role requires a proactive approach to inventory management, focusing on continuous improvement and operational excellence to enhance customer service while reducing costs. The Inventory Control Specialist will be accountable for corporate metrics reporting related to inventory control. This includes creating, running, preparing, and distributing metrics to both internal and external stakeholders, along with providing commentary on key drivers of inventory changes. Collaboration with the finance department will be necessary to ensure accurate reporting and analysis. As a Subject Matter Expert, the individual will also serve as a trainer for the organization on inventory processes and transactions within the ERP system, leading cross-functional efforts to improve inventory control processes and procedures. A significant aspect of this role involves driving cycle counting initiatives to demonstrate inventory accuracy, thereby reducing the need for annual physical inventories. The specialist will also be responsible for conducting inventory discrepancy investigations and corrections to recover lost inventory, identifying and documenting root causes of discrepancies such as BOM or consumption errors. The position fosters a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovative ideas and approaches to inventory management while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of daily inventory adjustments and coordinating write-offs with accounting. Travel to company sites may be required to perform inventory control processes as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the quality of ERP inventory transaction alignment to physical inventory movement.
  • Overall accountability for Inventory Control corporate metrics reporting.
  • Create, run, prepare, and distribute metrics to internal/external stakeholders.
  • Include commentary on key drivers of inventory changes.
  • Work with finance as needed.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert and trainer for the organization on inventory processes and transactions within ERP system.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to improve inventory control processes and procedures in support of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for driving Cycle Counting to demonstrate Inventory Accuracy without the need for annual Physical Inventories.
  • Drive and perform inventory discrepancy investigations/corrections to recover inventory and find, document, and eliminate root causes.
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement resulting in continually improving service levels to customers at a decreasing cost to the company.
  • Contribute sound advice and creative new ideas, concepts and approaches relative to inventory management.
  • Perform and ensure the accuracy and integrity of Daily Inventory Adjustments and coordinate write offs with accounting.
  • Travel as needed to company sites to perform inventory control processes.

Requirements

  • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills to lead resolution efforts focused on creating an exceptional customer experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in solving complicated problems, especially using advanced skills to compile/analyze data.

  • 3-5 years' relevant experience with inventory control, preferably within a production plant environment.
  • 3+ years of experience with ERP systems supporting inventory control.
  • Advanced computer skills including Excel for analyzing large data sets and PowerPoint for management presentation.
  • Ability to collaborate with other teams across the company in a process-driven, exception-based, time-sensitive process to achieve results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Motivated quick learner with a strong bias for action.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications.
