About the position

The Inventory Control Manager at Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC is responsible for overseeing the accuracy and accountability of inventory within the warehouse. This role focuses on managing inventory processes, ensuring compliance with established procedures, and minimizing food waste while supporting the organization's mission to provide food assistance. The position requires collaboration with various operational departments to maintain effective inventory management and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Vice-President of Operations in updating/creating Inventory SOPs to ensure accurate inventory from receipt to distribution.
  • Establish procedures and reporting for day-to-day inventory management to maintain high standards of accountability and accuracy.
  • Train the Operations team on inventory policies and procedures.
  • Oversee adherence to established inventory SOPs and correct any failures, retraining staff as necessary.
  • Create strategies, objectives, and develop policies/procedures to support food flow.
  • Maintain AIB standards and participate in audit preparations.
  • Conduct cycle counts based on leadership's directed frequency.
  • Oversee period-end inventory processes, ensuring accurate counts and reporting results.
  • Support warehouse inventory management through regular communication with operations and programs staff.
  • Conduct monthly recall tests to verify SOP accuracy and respond to recalls by checking inventory and removing recalled items.
  • Assist in establishing distribution priorities for donated and purchased food.
  • Oversee food flow within the warehouse using a first-expired, first-out model.
  • Maintain awareness of product expiration dates and expedite distribution of excess products.
  • Ensure products are distributed within USDA/FDA time requirements.
  • Oversee product storage in aisles, freezers, and coolers, ensuring consolidation of like products.
  • Serve as primary back-up for inventory system data entry and reporting.
  • Track and report data on food waste and composting efforts.
  • Work positively with all food bank employees and partner agencies.

Requirements

  • Inventory management experience within a warehouse distribution environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain a positive working environment.
  • Knowledge of workplace and food safety and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Very strong computer skills and ability to learn new technology.
  • Serv-Safe certification or ability to obtain it within one year of employment.
