About the position

We are Builders FirstSource, America's largest supplier of building materials, value-added components, and building services to the professional market. As an Inventory Control Manager, you will play a crucial role in managing and coordinating activities related to the facility's inventory. This includes overseeing both physical inventory processes and the management of inventory levels, turns, and return on investment. You will be responsible for implementing best practices related to cycle counts, purchasing and receiving procedures, and yard management as it pertains to inventory control. Your expertise will help streamline operations and ensure that inventory management aligns with the company's goals. In this position, you will determine and implement the A-B-C method of inventory turn management, collaborating with local managers to identify and resolve inventory control problems. You will work closely with the Corporate Inventory Management team to develop new inventory items and categories, monitor Bill of Materials (BOM) items for cost and material accuracy, and analyze variances between the general ledger and perpetual inventory values. Additionally, you will manage accruals for at-risk inventory dollars, identify obsolete or non-performing inventory items, and oversee all physical inventories. As a supervisor, you will lead a team of employees, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their performance levels and career development goals. Your leadership will be essential in fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. You will also be responsible for conducting performance reviews, addressing complaints, and resolving any issues that arise within your team. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to cost-conscious practices that contribute to the overall success of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate activities related to the facility's inventory.
  • Implement best practices for cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Determine and implement the A-B-C method of inventory turn management.
  • Collaborate with local managers to identify and resolve inventory control problems.
  • Work with the Corporate Inventory Management team to develop new inventory items and categories.
  • Monitor BOM items for cost and material accuracy.
  • Analyze and report variances between the general ledger and perpetual inventory values.

  • Identify obsolete, dead, damaged, or non-performing inventory items.
  • Schedule and oversee all physical inventories.
  • Resolve A/P discrepancies between locations and vendors.
  • Establish vendor cost schedules to minimize discrepancies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university preferred; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with various levels of management and yard personnel.
  • Analytical skills to synthesize complex information and design workflows.
  • Cost consciousness to work within approved budgets and develop cost-saving measures.
  • Planning and organizing skills to prioritize work activities and set goals.
