About the position

The Inventory Controller at Restaurant Depot plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operations of the Inventory, Front End, Cash Room, and Receiving Departments. This position requires close collaboration with the Assistant Branch Managers and the Branch Manager to maintain a positive company image through courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service. The Inventory Controller is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the physical inventory at the branch, utilizing tools such as a scan gun to gather necessary information and make informed decisions regarding pricing to ensure that gross margins meet corporate standards. This role also involves communicating margin issues to buyers and ensuring timely responses to these concerns. In addition to inventory management, the Inventory Controller is tasked with conducting regular cycle counts and training staff on inventory procedures. They are responsible for preparing and conducting semi-annual inventories and coordinating inventory control with various departments to ensure accurate stock levels. The position also includes supervising stock-takers, managing adjustment vouchers for vendor damages, and handling liquor and tobacco tax filings with governmental agencies. The Inventory Controller must analyze shrinkage and determine the causes of negative inventory and margins, as well as review statistical reports for any discrepancies. The role requires a commitment to company values and a strong customer orientation, as well as the ability to assist other departments as needed. The Inventory Controller must be prepared to perform various tasks and projects as directed by the Branch Manager and Corporate Headquarters, making this a dynamic and multifaceted position within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the accuracy of the physical inventory at the branch.
  • Use a scan gun and move merchandise as needed to obtain necessary information.
  • Make decisions on pricing and ensure gross margins are maintained at required levels.
  • Communicate margin issues to buyers and follow up for timely responses.
  • Review sales price differential reports to ensure front end pricing accuracy and make necessary changes.
  • Ensure timely and regular cycle counts are conducted.
  • Train staff for inventory purposes and prepare for semi-annual inventories.
  • Coordinate inventory control with Receiving, Perishables, Dry Goods Floor, and Front End to ensure accurate stock levels.
  • Supervise Stock-taker and coordinate writing of adjustment vouchers to vendors for damages.
  • Responsible for liquor and tobacco tax filings with governmental agencies.
  • Report shrink and research causes of inventory discrepancies.
  • Control markdowns and voids by monitoring damages and overstock.
  • Analyze and determine reasons for negative inventory and margins.
  • Review store statistical reports for abnormal or erroneous data.
  • Assist other departments as needed and perform various tasks as directed by the Branch Manager and Corporate Headquarters.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years experience in retail or wholesale.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Background in Physical Inventory maintenance/control.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise and direct employees.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various stakeholders.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, mass, and volume.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to company values and strong customer orientation.
  • Must be PC literate with a working knowledge of MS Office; 10-key skills are a plus.
