The Inventory Controller is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the physical inventory at the branch, utilizing tools such as a scan gun to gather necessary information and make informed decisions regarding pricing to ensure that gross margins meet corporate standards. In addition to inventory management, the Inventory Controller communicates margin issues to buyers and follows up to ensure timely responses. The role also involves ensuring that cycle counts are performed regularly and training staff on inventory procedures, including the preparation and execution of semi-annual inventories. The Inventory Controller supervises the Stock-taker and is responsible for writing adjustment vouchers to vendors for damages, as well as managing liquor and tobacco tax filings with the appropriate governmental agencies. Reporting shrinkage and investigating its causes, controlling markdowns and voids, and analyzing reasons for negative inventory and margins are also key responsibilities. The position may require assisting other departments and performing various tasks as directed by the Branch Manager and Corporate Headquarters.
