About the position

The Inventory Control Specialist Manager at Duke Energy/Camp Lejeune UESC is a pivotal role responsible for enhancing the existing inventory management systems and practices within utility operations, specifically for Electric and Water/Wastewater systems. This position requires a strategic approach to ensure optimal stock levels, minimize discrepancies, and improve overall operational efficiency. The manager will evaluate the current inventory management system, implement effective strategies, and coordinate with various departments to maintain accurate inventory records that align with business objectives. In this role, the manager will provide leadership and direction to the inventory management team, ensuring that all staff are proficient in inventory management procedures and systems. This includes developing and implementing training programs tailored to enhance team capabilities. The manager will assess current inventory management practices, including the evaluation of physical requirements, ordering, tracking, and disbursement processes. Identifying mission-critical materials and equipment, as well as classifying surplus or obsolete items, will be essential tasks. The position also involves implementing process improvements, such as updating the inventory management system to enhance classification, security, and tracking. The manager will establish a barcode inventory tracking system, purchase and install a MAXIMO-compatible point of sale (POS) system, and ensure that all materials and equipment are properly labeled and organized. Cross-departmental coordination is crucial, as the manager will collaborate with procurement, warehousing, and logistics teams to address inventory needs and resolve supply chain issues. Regular inventory audits and cycle counts will be established to maintain accuracy and compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements. The manager will utilize inventory management software to monitor levels, track transactions, and generate necessary reports, ensuring that the inventory management practices meet industry standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall project solution leadership for inventory management.
  • Coordinate with UESC Project Specialist, Government department management, and Inventory Specialist.
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff proficiency in inventory management procedures.
  • Evaluate inventory management practices, assignments, and platforms.
  • Assess inventory physical requirements and ordering processes.
  • Identify mission-critical materials and equipment, and classify materials and equipment accordingly.
  • Identify surplus and obsolete materials and equipment.
  • Update inventory management system based on classification, security, ordering, tracking, and location.
  • Establish a barcode inventory tracking system with unique identifiers for each item.
  • Purchase and install a MAXIMO-compatible point of sale (POS) system with barcode scanning capabilities.
  • Install quick reference signage for materials stored in each aisle.
  • Label all materials and equipment, including photos and part numbers.
  • Maximize material and equipment space utilization, including signage and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with procurement, warehousing, and logistics teams to coordinate inventory needs.
  • Establish regular inventory audits and cycle counts to ensure accuracy of records.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize and manage inventory management software to monitor levels and track transactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or 8 years of direct experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in inventory management or a related field, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Experience working with military/government inventory management systems preferred.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in inventory management software (e.g., Maximo).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
  • Solid understanding of supply chain processes and best practices.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant certifications such as Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Six Sigma Green Belt are preferred.
