About the position

The position is responsible for overseeing all purchasing, inventory control, and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) functions within the organization. The employee will manage the procurement process from the initial intent to purchase through to the delivery of commodities, ensuring that all activities align with the company's standards and requirements. This includes preparing work instructions related to purchasing systems and procedures, analyzing commodity requirements, and ensuring timely delivery at negotiated prices while meeting quality standards. The role also involves developing and maintaining strong supplier relationships to secure high-quality products and services at competitive prices, all while adhering to ethical standards and compliance with environmental and safety regulations. In addition to procurement responsibilities, the employee will negotiate with vendors to achieve the best possible pricing and service guarantees. They will be tasked with identifying opportunities for continuous improvement within the procurement process and will prepare and issue purchase orders and change notices. The position requires reviewing purchase orders, claims, and contracts to ensure conformity with company standards and assigning procurement requests to appropriate personnel. The employee will also prepare detailed reports and analyses of purchased goods, advising team members and management on supplier selection. The role requires collaboration with various departments, including manufacturing and engineering, to address production schedules, methods, materials, and designs. The employee will assist in planning load levels in terms of units and manpower, monitor and report inventory levels by category, and manage slow-moving, obsolete, and non-moving inventory. They will also coordinate receiving and warehousing procedures, oversee the distribution of supplies, and ensure material availability during emergencies. Overall, the position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency in procurement operations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all purchasing, inventory control, and MRP functions.
  • Oversee all activities related to the procurement of a commodity, from intent to purchase through delivery.
  • Prepare work instructions regarding purchasing systems and procedures.
  • Analyze the requirements of the commodity, including specifications, preferred suppliers, and delivery dates.
  • Ensure timely delivery of commodities at negotiated prices and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain supplier relationships for high-quality products and services.
  • Negotiate with vendors for goods and services, securing the best prices and service guarantees.
  • Follow environmental and safety regulations and comply with U.S. laws.
  • Identify, document, and implement opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders and change notices.
  • Review purchase orders, claims, and contracts for conformity to company standards.
  • Assign procurement requests to appropriate personnel.
  • Prepare required reports and provide detailed analysis of purchased goods.

  • Oversee the distribution of supplies in the organization.
  • Control inventory levels and ensure material availability during emergencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 3 years related experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to interpret and negotiate contracts.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in supervising and motivating subordinates.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis, evaluation, and scientific method.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information such as financial reports and legal documents.
  • Experience in shipping and receiving.
  • Familiarity with supply chain and inventory management systems.
  • Understanding of forecasting and budgeting.
  • Working knowledge of SAP MM.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
