About the position

The Inventory Planning Specialist at Dollar General plays a crucial role in managing the inventory levels of core merchandise across various stores. This position primarily involves interaction with store personnel and field management to ensure that the right amount of merchandise is available, thereby preventing stock-outs and over-stocks. The specialist will perform detailed analyses to identify inventory issues and execute necessary changes to optimize merchandise flow, especially in remodeled and relocated stores. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of inventory management processes and ensuring that stores are adequately stocked with the right products. In this position, the specialist will be responsible for controlling the assortment of core products by analyzing specific store layout requirements and maintaining store attributes. They will collaborate with the Space Planning team to ensure that planogram needs are met. The specialist will provide core replenishment support to stores and field management through various communication channels, including voice, email, and the RESPOND software. Additionally, they will analyze sales trends related to core products and adjust inventory stock levels accordingly to optimize sales performance. The role also involves monitoring the flow of products into stores, particularly before remodels and relocations, and partnering with the Transportation team to resolve any processing exceptions. The specialist will assist in identifying technical issues related to product movement activities and will engage in interdepartmental data sharing to enhance operational efficiency. Overall, this position requires a blend of analytical skills, customer service abilities, and a solid understanding of retail operations and inventory management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with stores and field personnel to ensure proper levels of core merchandise.
  • Perform analysis for stock-outs, over-stocks, and other inventory problems.
  • Execute changes needed to adjust merchandise flow to remodeled and relocated stores.
  • Maintain and monitor reports and inquiries to identify replenishment problems and initiate corrective actions.
  • Control the assortment of core products through analysis of specific store layout requirements.
  • Provide core replenishment support to stores and field management via voice, email, or RESPOND software.
  • Analyze specific store core product sales trends and control the flow of core product through inventory stock level manipulation.
  • Analyze Lifecycle Remodel layouts and data extractions to ensure appropriate planograms and merchandise setup.
  • Control product flow into stores prior to remodel and relocation fixture dates.
  • Partner with Transportation to monitor carton totals and resolve processing exceptions.
  • Work with Employee Response Center to identify potential technical issues related to product movement activities.
  • Analyze sales trends related to stock level recalculation exceptions and adjust as necessary.
  • Assist in interdepartmental data sharing activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years of progressive administrative experience involving computer systems handling complex information.
  • At least 1 year of experience in customer service or inventory replenishment.
  • Knowledge of retail operations and distribution center procedures and systems.
  • Good analytical skills and ability to adapt easily to handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong customer service skills with effective oral and written communication abilities.
  • Well organized with the ability to determine priorities with little supervision.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience and knowledge of Island Pacific System and Alldata G.O.L.D. preferred.
