About the position

The Inventory & Purchasing Manager at Small Potatoes is responsible for overseeing inventory control and procurement of raw materials for the food manufacturing business. This role ensures optimal stock levels to meet production demands, negotiates with suppliers for cost-effective deliveries, and maintains compliance with food safety and regulatory standards. The position plays a critical role in streamlining inventory management processes, minimizing waste, and supporting production efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure sufficient raw materials and packaging supplies for production demands.
  • Implement and optimize inventory control systems to track stock movements and reduce waste.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.
  • Source and negotiate with suppliers to secure high-quality materials at competitive prices.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure reliable and timely deliveries.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and manage contracts to ensure alignment with production and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with production and sales teams to forecast raw material requirements and align purchasing schedules with demand.
  • Plan purchasing activities to minimize lead times, avoid stockouts, and optimize working capital.
  • Monitor and control procurement budgets, seeking opportunities to reduce costs without compromising quality.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives in purchasing and inventory management.
  • Ensure all materials meet food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, GMPs) and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, purchase orders, and supplier agreements.
  • Identify and implement best practices to improve inventory and procurement efficiency.
  • Utilize data analysis to identify trends, address inefficiencies, and enhance overall supply chain performance.
  • Support leadership in new product development & client relations by helping acquire new ingredients and ensuring delivery in proper timelines for R&D.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in inventory management and procurement, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
  • Strong understanding of inventory control systems and procurement practices.
  • Familiarity with food safety standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., HACCP, GMPs).
  • Proficiency in inventory and purchasing software systems.
  • Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities across teams.
  • Resiliency to adapt in a fast-growing and fast-changing business.
