About the position

The Inventory Specialist is responsible for executing and monitoring inventory best practices and standard operating procedures across the store, including both front end and pharmacy operations. This role supports pharmacy inventory management activities, ensuring accuracy in receiving, counting, ordering, and facilitating returns. The specialist champions On-Shelf Availability and oversees all in-store inventory processes, validating planograms and maintaining compliance with inventory regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and monitor inventory best practices and standard operating procedures for the store.
  • Support pharmacy inventory management activities including receiving, counting, ordering, and facilitating returns.
  • Champion On-Shelf Availability and manage all in-store inventory processes.
  • Validate and ensure accuracy of planograms.
  • Review and coordinate the proper use of reports and system applications affecting inventory accuracy.
  • Execute and maintain asset protection techniques and file claims for inventory discrepancies.
  • Open and close the store in the absence of management, handling cash and ensuring readiness for business.
  • Engage customers by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Coach team members on warehouse and vendor inventory management processes.
  • Scan deliveries while vendors are present and take appropriate actions for undelivered items.
  • Verify pharmacy shipments and complete postings for products received.
  • Complete On-Shelf Availability processes and manage disposals and returns before expiration.
  • Complete pricing activities including price changes and markdowns.
  • Support front end and pharmacy ordering and maintain consigned inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local laws regarding regulated products.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory records and preparing for physical inventory activities.
  • Support package delivery activities and execute the Pickup Program.
  • Register sales on the point-of-sale system and handle customer transactions accurately.
  • Attend company-based trainings for continuous development and maintain required certifications.
  • Serve as a liaison between management and team members, communicating tasks and reporting issues.

Requirements

  • One year of prior retail work experience with knowledge of inventory management.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Experience in identifying operational issues and implementing strategies to resolve them.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience as a shift lead, pharmacy technician, or customer service associate.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
