This internship position is designed for a student engineer to support a research and development project focused on the creation of a hardware testbed featuring programmable inverters. The selected candidate will work closely with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) team during the fall semester of 2024, specifically from August to December. The role is pivotal in advancing the understanding and application of inverter technologies in power systems, which are essential for modern energy solutions. The student engineer will engage in several key activities, including the development of grid forming (GFM) and grid following (GFL) inverter models using electromagnetic transients (EMT) simulation tools. This involves programming inverter microcontrollers and conducting laboratory experiments on the hardware testbed. The position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge field, contributing to the development of technologies that shape the future of energy. Candidates are expected to have a strong academic background in electrical engineering, ideally pursuing a Ph.D. with a focus on power systems and power electronics. The internship will not only enhance the student's technical skills but also provide insights into the operational aspects of research and development within the energy sector.
