About the position

The Investigation Assistant Manager at the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) plays a crucial role in overseeing and conducting sensitive investigations related to allegations of child abuse and neglect. This position involves training and advising investigative specialists, ensuring effective investigation techniques are employed, and maintaining a high level of professionalism in handling complex cases. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and the ability to manage high-profile investigations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, respond to, and conduct investigations involving allegations of criminal conduct related to child abuse or neglect.
  • Accompany DCS Specialists and/or OIS on difficult investigations that may become confrontational.
  • Conduct and document interviews, prepare reports for management, and testify in court as needed.
  • Provide on-the-job coaching, mentoring, and support to newly hired OIS.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of legislation, policies, and procedures relevant to child welfare investigations.
  • Conduct training for newly hired OIS on investigation techniques and strategies for handling sensitive cases.
  • Act as manager in the absence of the OCWI Manager.
  • Attend unit meetings, multidisciplinary meetings, and fatality review meetings as needed.

Requirements

  • Must have 6 months experience as an OCWI Investigator.
  • Knowledge of principles of adult education and effective presentation techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to conduct high-profile, complex, and sensitive investigations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in child welfare practices and policies related to abuse and neglect.
  • Familiarity with Arizona law related to special victims and forensics.
  • Experience in delivering training to diverse audiences.
