About the position

The Investigations Specialist plays a crucial role in conducting sensitive investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct reported to the Office of Audit and Investigations (OAI) at UNDP. This position requires a thorough understanding of investigation protocols and a commitment to a victim-centered approach, ensuring that investigations are conducted in a timely and efficient manner while adhering to internationally accepted standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct, including Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Sexual Assault, and Sexual Harassment.
  • Plan and conduct investigations in accordance with UNDP policies and procedures and the OAI Investigation Guidelines.
  • Identify, collect, and analyze information relevant to investigations, ensuring confidentiality and information security.
  • Collect, record, and handle evidence appropriately, maintaining the chain of custody.
  • Conduct interviews with complainants, witnesses, and subjects/suspects, demonstrating effective communication skills across diverse backgrounds.
  • Draft high-quality investigation reports summarizing findings and providing sound conclusions and recommendations.
  • Liaise with various UNDP offices and external agencies regarding investigations and support services for victims.
  • Participate in outreach sessions to train UNDP personnel on investigation protocols.

Requirements

  • Advanced University Degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Law, Criminology, or a related field, or a first-level university degree with additional qualifying experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience as an investigator, or 7 years with a bachelor's degree/certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in investigating sexual misconduct cases, including interviewing victims.
  • Specialized training in investigations of sex crimes, sexual exploitation and abuse, and sexual harassment is required.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required; knowledge of other UN official languages is desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Specialized training in advanced interviewing skills is highly desirable.
  • Formal professional training in a comprehensive range of investigation-related areas is an advantage.
  • At least one year of experience working in an international investigation role is desirable.
