About the position

The Investigator I position within the Solicitor General's Office is responsible for conducting criminal investigations and performing paralegal duties to prepare misdemeanor cases for prosecution. This role involves working closely with an Assistant Solicitor General to ensure cases are trial-ready, providing essential investigative support, and representing the office in various capacities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide criminal investigative support for case files.
  • Prepare witness lists for trial and case summaries.
  • Prepare affidavits for subpoenas and photographic line-ups.
  • Obtain certified copies of criminal convictions on defendants.
  • Review law enforcement officers' investigative reports and witness statements.
  • Participate in preliminary negotiations with defendants and defense attorneys.
  • Interview victims, witnesses, and law enforcement officers.
  • Conduct computer searches for suspects and witnesses using criminal history databases.
  • Transport evidence and witnesses to court proceedings and victims to hospitals for evidence gathering.
  • Testify in court proceedings and counsel victims and witnesses on courtroom procedures.
  • Consult with state crime lab personnel regarding test findings.
  • Conduct special and internal investigations as directed by the Solicitor General.
  • Establish and maintain an effective case file system for ongoing investigations.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent (54 semester hours); Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Must be Georgia P.O.S.T. certified peace officer in good standing.
  • Must maintain P.O.S.T. certification and firearms qualification.
