About the position

The Investigator position at the Minnesota Department of Public Safety involves conducting investigations into allegations of employee misconduct, policy violations, and other critical incidents. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of the department and ensuring compliance with the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. The position offers the flexibility of teleworking based on business needs and supervisory discretion, and it is part-time with a focus on equity and inclusion within the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate allegations of employee misconduct, including harassment and discrimination.
  • Assist department supervisors in conducting employee investigations.
  • Maintain investigation records in accordance with the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.
  • Communicate complex information verbally and in writing, summarizing and interpreting facts in an unbiased manner.
  • Testify in administrative hearings and defend decisions/actions taken during investigations.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience conducting investigations in civil rights, human resources, or labor relations settings.
  • Experience conducting independent investigations into employee misconduct and policy violations.
  • Strong communication skills for summarizing and analyzing complex information.
  • Ability to maintain neutrality and trust with diverse stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience; a Master's degree may substitute for two years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience conducting workplace investigations in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of laws related to discrimination and harassment, such as the Minnesota Human Rights Act.
  • Experience working with law enforcement or regulatory agencies.
