About the position

The Investment Accounting Specialist at the Pennsylvania Public School Employees' Retirement System (PSERS) is responsible for developing and enhancing the internal control environment framework for various accounting sections. This role involves monitoring operational risks and internal controls, ensuring comprehensive documentation, and responding to audit requests. The position offers the opportunity for part-time telework and requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance the internal control environment framework for Annuitant Accounting, Healthcare Accounting, and Hybrid Plan Accounting sections.
• Monitor operational risks and internal controls within the Office of Financial Management.
• Organize and respond to internal and external audit requests and documentation needs.
• Collaborate with other areas in PSERS to maintain a comprehensive internal control framework.
• Analyze data, form conclusions, and provide recommendations based on financial and qualitative reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and two or more years of professional accounting or auditing experience, including one year in investment accounting, auditing, or operations.
• Business-related Master's degree or CPA designation may substitute for one year of experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
• One or more years of relevant internal control experience
• Experience or education in financial reporting and/or financial auditing
• Experience or education in investment accounting and/or general accounting
• Certification as CPA, CGFM, or CTP
