About the position

The Associate Portfolio Manager at Enterprise Bank & Trust plays a crucial role in managing investment portfolios while leveraging capital market knowledge and experience. This position involves daily interactions with other portfolio managers and trust associates to ensure that investment portfolios are managed in a risk-controlled manner. The Associate Portfolio Manager is expected to allocate approximately 70% of their time to performing research and managing portfolios for client relationships. This role serves as the primary contact for investment planning and advisory issues, coordinating the delivery of these services with the client's Wealth Advisor, Private Banker, Trust Officer, and Administrator. Responsibilities include assessing investment risk tolerance, conducting asset allocation analysis, and developing asset protection strategies. In addition to managing portfolios, the Associate Portfolio Manager is responsible for providing exceptional client service and responsiveness based on client needs and expectations. This includes conducting regular meetings and communications with clients, advising them on market conditions, investment trends, and alternatives. The role also involves preparing documents for Wealth Management team members to assist in closing new client prospects for investment management and wealth planning services. Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and maintaining a high level of ethics and professionalism in all interactions is paramount to promote the Bank's reputation and adhere to applicable laws and regulations. The Associate Portfolio Manager will work collaboratively with Investment Team members to create analytical tools and improve operational efficiency related to research and performance reporting. They will also assist Portfolio Traders as needed and support the team during annual regulatory exams and audits. A comprehensive understanding of trust policies is essential, and the role may involve performing other duties as required to support the investment management function.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research and manage portfolios for client relationships, allocating 70% of time to these tasks.
  • Serve as the investment team contact for investment planning and advisory issues, coordinating with Wealth Advisors, Private Bankers, Trust Officers, and Administrators.
  • Assist the relationship team in providing exceptional client service and responsiveness, including regular meetings and communications with clients.
  • Advise clients and prospective clients on market conditions, investment trends, and alternatives, explaining various investment vehicles and options.
  • Ensure proper regulatory compliance in processes and procedures for the team.
  • Maintain a high level of ethics, integrity, and professionalism in all interactions to promote the Bank's reputation.
  • Work with Investment Team members to create analytical tools and improve operational efficiency related to research and performance reporting.
  • Assist Portfolio Trader(s) as needed and support during annual regulatory exams and audits.
  • Maintain knowledge of trust policies and perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years' experience in the investment and economic fields, with an emphasis on investment research.
  • Comprehensive understanding of asset allocation, investment trading, security research, investment selection, risk management, and economic research.
  • Understanding of Modern Portfolio Theory and investment-related concepts such as asset class risk, return, and correlation.
  • Ability to independently calculate important investment-related metrics and research macroeconomic and investment-related concepts.
  • Proven experience creating investment illustrations and delivering analytics to clients, prospects, and colleagues.
  • In-depth experience with investment management procedures and practices, including designing investment policy statements and tax planning.
  • Financial planning and portfolio management software experience, with the ability to learn specialized software independently.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint; skilled in Fidelity Wealthscape, Tamarac, and eMoney; knowledge of VBA or Python is a plus.
