About the position

The Investment Portfolio Consultant role at Advisors Excel involves providing expert investment consulting services to financial advisors. The position focuses on delivering data-driven insights and tailored support in asset allocation, portfolio management, and investment strategies, particularly in ETFs and mutual funds. The consultant will work closely with advisors to enhance their investment philosophies and assist in model design and manager selection, ultimately supporting advisors in helping their clients secure comfortable retirements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the sales team to identify advisors who would benefit from the Investment Consulting Group's expertise.
  • Gather information from advisors to understand their current models and investment philosophies.
  • Help advisors develop and document their own investment philosophies and establish benchmarks.
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate existing platform products or direct indexing solutions.
  • Act as the primary consultant for designated advisors, providing tailored support and guidance.
  • Deliver monthly and quarterly reporting, analysis, and recommendations to advisors.
  • Participate and contribute to regular meetings about macro-economic trends and portfolio positioning, and apply to advisor models as appropriate.
  • Occasionally present investment models to end clients, offering insight and addressing questions.
  • Educate advisors on model strategies through verbal and written materials.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years' experience in an investment focused role.
  • CFA charterholder strongly preferred, or equivalent working experience.
  • Experience with manager selection (both passive and active strategies) as investment options across various account types.
  • Thorough understanding of key investment concepts, such as Modern Portfolio Theory, and their real-world application.
  • Analytical mindset, ability to tell a story through data.
  • Experience with research software (Morningstar Direct, Fact Set).
  • Skilled and confident communicator; professional and articulate in written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to translate complex investment concepts into clear explanations for audiences with varying levels of investment knowledge and experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • CIMA or CIPM designation.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or a similar field.
